At 5pm EST Friday 22nd October 2010 WikiLeaks released the largest classified military leak in history. The 391,832 reports (‘The Iraq War Logs’), document the war and occupation in Iraq, from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2009 (except for the months of May 2004 and March 2009) as told by soldiers in the United States Army. Each is a ‘SIGACT’ or Significant Action in the war. They detail events as seen and heard by the US military troops on the ground in Iraq and are the first real glimpse into the secret history of the war that the United States government has been privy to throughout.

The reports detail 109,032 deaths in Iraq, comprised of 66,081 ‘civilians’; 23,984 ‘enemy’ (those labeled as insurgents); 15,196 ‘host nation’ (Iraqi government forces) and 3,771 ‘friendly’ (coalition forces). The majority of the deaths (66,000, over 60%) of these are civilian deaths. That is 31 civilians dying every day during the six year period. For comparison, the ‘Afghan War Diaries’, previously released by WikiLeaks, covering the same period, detail the deaths of some 20,000 people. Iraq during the same period, was five times as lethal with equivallent population size.

The British army has been relocating Taliban insurgents from southern Afghanistan to the north by providing transportation means, diplomats say.
The diplomats, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said insurgents are being airlifted from the southern province of Helmand to the north amid increasing violence in the northern parts of the country.
The aircraft used for the transfer have been identified as British Chinook helicopters.
The officials said Sultan Munadi, an Afghan interpreter who was kidnapped along with his employer, New York Times reporter Stephen Farrell, was killed by a “British sniper” as commandos executed a rescue operation to free Farrell.
They said Munadi was targeted for possessing documents and pictures pointing at the British military’s involvement in the transfer operation.
The Afghan journalist also had evidence of the involvement of the foreign forces in Afghanistan in the tensions that rocked China’s Xinjiang autonomous region in July, the diplomats said.

Qaeda Wows to Fire Pakistan Nukes at US

[More staged turbulence to quickly usher in the Allied Union, Wes Penre]

A top al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan says his men ‘will’ use Pakistan’s nuclear weapons against the US, should they be able to get their hands on any.
“God willing, the nuclear weapons will not fall into the hands of the Americans and the Mujahideen would take them and use them against the Americans,” Mustafa Abu al-Yazid said in an interview with al-Jazeera television.
The interview comes after US and Indian officials raised concerns over the safety of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal amid growing insurgency across the country.
The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, in an interview with Fox News in late April said the US was worried about the “unthinkable” in Pakistan — that the Taliban and al-Qaeda could topple the government, and get their hands on “the keys to nuclear arsenal.”
Officials in Islamabad, meanwhile, have ruled out the possibility of the nuclear weapons falling into the hands of the militants.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari maintains that his country has a strong command-and-control system for its nuclear weapons.
However, al-Yazid believes that pro-Taliban militants in Pakistan are capable of overpowering the military in the northwestern parts of the country.
“We expect that the Pakistani army would be defeated (in Swat) … and that would be its end everywhere, God willing,” he said.
The military claims to have killed nearly 1,700 militants since it launched a crackdown in the Swat valley and its adjoining districts two months ago.
This is while South Waziristan, in the lawless border region with Afghanistan, has been hit by air raids and military shelling in recent days.
The US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 has turned the restive tribal belt between the two neighbors into a scene of daily violence.

Israel Rehearsing ‘Doomsday’ Scenario

Sirens wailed across Israel on the third day of Tel Aviv’s largest-ever military drill which is widely believed to be preparation for another war in the region.
The drill is widely believed to be in line with the regime’s preparation for a possible attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities which they admit can ignite an all-out war in the region.
Israeli officials sound sirens on Tuesday as part of the five-day “Turning point 3” military exercises which has begun on Sunday to test the response to a “doomsday” mix of missile attacks from Iran, Syria, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip as well as suicide bombings and natural disasters.
“The purpose of the siren is to affect the consciousness of the Israeli public,” Haaretz quoted Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai as saying.
“Every citizen of the state should know that an emergency drill can take place anytime anywhere and how they should act,” she added. The Tuesday exercise is meant to test the national system of 2,300 sirens.
The Home Front’s rescue battalions will also take part in the exercise, practicing rescuing victims from a building that was demolished especially for the event.
In Eilat, emergency forces will also simulate chemical and biological strikes on a school.
At the Mitzpe Golan School in Bnei Yehuda on the occupied Golan Heights, children lined up in a more or less orderly fashion to enter shuttered classrooms as the sirens began wailing.
“This kind of exercise is particularly relevant in the Golan as the danger is real,” one teacher said.
The area was among those that involved in the 33-day war that launched against Lebanese Hezbollah movement in the summer of 2006.
On several occasions, Israel admitted to its failure in the July War which was launched to destroy Hezbollah’s military power.
National Emergency Authority Chief, Brig. Gen. (res.) Ze’ev Zuk-Rom formerly acknowledged that “Turning Point 3” is to be held based on the lessons Israel learnt during its war against the Lebanese movement.
Hezabollah in cooperation with the Lebanese army has also heightened security measures along the southern border with Israel to repel possible threats during the ongoing drill
